We can come to your venue to run weekly drama workshops. We can also tailor a series of workshops, or a one-off workshop on requested topics.

What can ActAble do for you?

We use our knowledge and experience as actor-educators to develop the life-skills which are at the core of ActAble’s ethos: Development through drama...creativity, confidence, collaboration. In all drama workshops, the children are encouraged to use their imaginations, work together, listen to each other and most importantly feel safe and empowered enough to “give everything a go”. This is achieved through rapport with the children, praise, encouragement and the structure of the workshop (whereby they are eased in and then gradually built up; from doing activities all together, then in groups, then in pairs and perhaps finally on their own)!

What happens in weekly drama workshops?

The focus is always on fun and the workshops for 4-10 year olds are themed e.g. "space"/ "the jungle". Consequently they get involved and before they know it, have taken part in a whole variety of new activities and learnt a range of performance skills.

The details below apply to 4+ year olds (of course adapted dependant on the age group). Teen’s capabilities would be stretched a bit more.

To ensure everyone is comfortable and to allow for the gradual build-up of confidence, each class is structured as follows:

  • Physical activities and drama games
  • Mind warm up drama game
  • Vocal activities and warm up
  • Mime activities
  • Improvisation and Devising (possible use of props and costumes too)

We often culminate a series of workshops in a relaxed “performance”, (or “showing” as we call it). However, I’d like to reiterate that ActAble isn’t about creating “stage children”, there is no pressure. Performance always remains fun and the focus of what we do is always on the development of the children.

For children under 4, you may be interested in the StoryActing workshop. (Please view the StoryActing page).

Examples of previous bespoke workshops:

  • Introduction to Shakespeare

  • Devising programme for teenagers
